Peak Design: the systems behind a $100M+ global brand

Thirteen years building the technology and operations backbone for a camera and travel gear company as it grew from a Kickstarter campaign into a global consumer brand.

The starting point

A pile of apps, and no one steering.

Shopify for orders. Spreadsheets for inventory. Accounting software bolted on the side. A growing pile of apps that didn't talk to each other, and no technical owner, so vendors and agencies were steering by default. Every new channel, warehouse, or product launch meant more manual work and more places for data to break.

Sound familiar? It's where most growing brands end up somewhere between $5M and $50M.

By the numbers

$100M+

global e-commerce operation: DTC, wholesale, Amazon and retail

9 warehouses

across a 3PL network on [X] continents

50% faster

order processing after the ERP re-architecture

125+ hours

saved per month through integration and automation

7+ locations

stores, offices and warehouses deployed end to end

What we built

Six systems that let the business grow without breaking.

  1. 01

    Order and fulfillment backbone

Re-architected the ERP and order flow around NetSuite, connecting Shopify, Amazon, and wholesale channels to a multi-warehouse 3PL network. One order path, whatever the channel.

  2. 02

    Integration and automation

Replaced the manual handoffs between sales, finance, customer service and fulfillment with automated workflows. 125+ hours a month back to the team.

  3. 03

    Data, reporting and planning

Stood up a Snowflake data warehouse and product information system so inventory, sales and finance ran on one set of numbers, and built the reporting that demand planning and S&OP ran on.

  4. 04

    Wholesale, warranty and launch systems

Built the systems behind the wholesale channel, the warranty program, and new product launches.

  5. 05

    Stores and infrastructure

Launched retail stores, offices and warehouses end to end: Shopify POS, networking, security.

  6. 06

    The team

Built and led the business operations organization spanning systems, data, frontend, customer service and operations.

Celigo

One platform to run it all

Celigo integration platform, connected to NetSuite

Challenge
Order failures surfaced only when customers complained, staff uploaded files to NetSuite by hand every day, and each 3PL ran in its own silo.
Solution
DTC, marketplace and wholesale channels, 3PLs and back-office systems moved onto one Celigo platform: 150+ workflows, more than half built and managed in-house.
Result
Daily manual uploads eliminated, with order errors tracked as a core KPI.
"We strive to make sure over 99% of orders flow through the system untouched."
Mark Wang, VP of Business Operations, Peak Design

Stord

Consolidating US fulfillment

Stord 3PL warehousing, connected to NetSuite

Challenge
US fulfillment was split across three 3PLs, and B2B (about half of revenue) had to meet big-box retailers' strict routing rules or pay chargebacks.
Solution
Stord became the primary fulfillment partner with a new East Coast node, and a fast onboarding connected NetSuite to Stord's API.
Result
Faster delivery to East Coast customers, and a repeatable way to grow from 9 warehouses toward 20+.
"Every 3PL we work with, it's just a lot of different processes and a lot of work. I think consolidating into one vendor provider is really important."
Mark Wang, VP of Business Operations, Peak Design

How it played out

Built to keep up.

Technology decisions were made with the business in the room, not handed down from IT. Growth stopped breaking things. The company scaled from a small startup to a $100M+ global operation on a foundation that kept up.
